The Educational Coalition for Monroe County (ECMC) invites musicians to join the Mid-Keys Community Big Band.  Rehearsals are Thursdays 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Marathon Community United Methodist Church.  The band is under the professional direction of Hulber Gagliardini. Political Satire at SoDu
This upcoming Fantasy Fest  theme, “Pirates, Pundits and Political Party Animals,” lures us into the realm of political satire.
If you have a horse in the race and can turn it into art, The SoDu window beckons you.  We are inviting our favorite artists to look at the politics of the town, the country, the world with an artist’s eye for our October window display.
Warm up your engines with Walt Kelly,  lipsticked pigs,  Animal Farm, The Onion, Stephen Colbert, Jon Daily,  Bloom County,  Doonesbury, and Monty Python.
 
Guidelines:
Two or three dimensions, any media, but must fit in the window (the door is 6’4” x 32”).  Please let us know ahead of time if you are planning something large or elaborate.
 
Deadline for submissions is October 13.  Window will be installed that week through the end of the month. Bring your art to SoDu Gallery, 1100 Duval St 10 am - 6 pm.  296-4400
 
Sales will be governed by the gallery consignment agreement which you will need to sign if you  are not already in the gallery.

Panel Artist Opening: The recently relocated Bougainvillea House Gallery of Marathon has an opening for a half, or full, space panel artist effective May 1st. Interested artists must reside at least part time in the Keys. This cooperative gallery has been in business nearly 10 years and is home to 20 artists from Key Largo to Key West. Just 4 Kids Community Art Center needs volunteer artists! The Art Center located in Bahama Village at the corner of Fort & Petronia (next to the Bahama Village Music Program) provides free art classes and projects that build self-esteem and self-expression to school children ages 6 and up. We currently have several after school groups and individual students attending the art center from 2:30 - 5:00 Monday - Friday and from Noon - 2:00 on Saturdays.
