The Florida Keys Council of the Arts serves as staff to the Art in Public Places committee. The AIPP committee is charged with purchase and installation of artwork under a 1% for art program in any new major county construction. The committee is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.  The current Board for 2008 is Nance Frank, Chair and representing District 1, Jon McIntosh - District 2, Susann D'Antonio - District 3, Nancy Perez Miller - District 4 and Donna Bosold - District 5.

The first 1% project, The Roth Building on Plantation Key, was completed in 2003.  Fire Stations in North Key Largo and Tavernier were complete in 2007. Projects underway include the Freeman Justice Center in Key West; the Key West International Airport new McCoy terminal and the Murray Nelson Government Building in Key Largo.  Please click here to view photos.

Monroe County is proud to be one of over 300 Public Art programs in the United States. Public art ranks among the most visible and rapidly growing segments of the arts in America with public art budgets having grown steadily over the past five years.

Public Art creatively enhances public spaces and encourages civic pride. Our successful and established program has improved the physical, cultural, and economic aspects of our communities across the Key’s contributing to our cultural and creative legacy.
